Ross Mazzola will be presenting a FLDigi Hands-On Training. To get the most of this session, you’ll want to bring a laptop and a handheld radio. Time will be spent in this session getting your laptop configured to use this digital mode.

You can download and install the software during the session, or you can download the software prior to the conference. You can either get these links from the download page, or just download the files for your laptop from here:

Keynote Speaker: Mike Corey, W5MPC

Mike Corey, ARRL Emergency Preparedness and Response ManagerEmComm East is pleased to announce that Mike Corey, W5MPC, will be speaking at EmComm East 2011.

Mr. Corey is the Emergency Preparedness and Response Manager for the American Radio Relay League. His major responsibilities include addressing the development and implementation of an organizational disaster response plan as well as an operational continuity plan, complete with supporting procedures and training. Corey also plays an integral part in the management of ARES®, and in future negotiations with served agencies with whom ARRL shares or creates Memoranda of Understanding.

An Extra class licensee and an ARRL Life Member, Corey comes to the ARRL with almost 20 years of experience with emergency communications. Licensed since 1988, he has been involved with SKYWARN since 1991 and has attended basic and advanced SKYWARN training. He is the author of the ARRL Storm Spotter’s Handbook, which was released in 2010.

Featured Speaker for EmComm East 2010: Steve Ewald

We are pleased to announce this year’s keynote speaker from the ARRL, Steve Ewald, WV1X.

Steve is the Supervisor of the ARRL Field Organization Team at Headquarters where he is the lead staff liaison to ARRL Section Managers and ARRL Field Organization appointees. He edits the Public Service column in QST and helps support the ARRL efforts in emergency and public service communications.

Steve has been on the staff at ARRL Headquarters for 28 years. He is originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, and has a B.S. degree in Communications from the University of Tennessee.

Atlantic Division to Host Webinar (Nov 10, 2009) — Periodically, the ARRL’s Atlantic Division hosts a “webinar” — an interactive Web-based seminar, designed to facilitate communication between a small number of presenters and a large remote audience using the Internet. On Friday, November 13 at 9 PM EST, Chuck Blocher, PhD, KC2IQV, will present a webinar entitled The Emotional Go Kit: Are You Prepared? “As hams serve as emergency and public service communicators, we prepare our Go Kits and necessary gear to provide essential communications,” said webinar sponsor ARRL Atlantic Division Director Bill Edgar, N3LLR. “How prepared are you concerning your emotional wellness during one of these events? This webinar addresses the emotional well-being and preparedness for those Amateur Radio communicators who participate in emergency and public service situations.”
