Amateur radio operators pride themselves on the ability to
get the message through, "when all else fails" during a disaster.
Amateur Radio Emergency Communications (or EmComm) plays an important
role in helping disaster relief organizations communicate when land
lines, cell phones, and other traditional modes of communication become
overloaded or fail.
EmComm East is an ARRL-sanctioned amateur radio
emergency communications conference, where amateur radio operators
involved in EmComm can attend training sessions on technical topics,
purchase equipment and supplies from vendors, learn from served
agencies, obtain VE testing for license upgrades, and interact with
other EmComm operators from all over the area.
EmComm East will be held on September 20, 2008, in Rochester, New York. Sign up
for e-mail announcements or subscribe to our RSS feed, and we'll keep
you informed of new developments in this exciting opportunity!
EmComm East thanks the following organizations for their support!
This past week, the ARRL Executive committee approved EmComm East an an Operating Specialty event. We are very excited to have received this designation!
What does that mean for you? It means that the ARRL "will make every effort to provide a speaker from among the Headquarters staff or from among the officers of the League." We'll keep you informed here on the website once we know who will be coming to our conference.
